Accreditation Revoked of Area Business

The Better Business Bureau in Southeast Texas has revoked the BBB Accreditation of a Lake Charles business that advertises and solicits business from  Southeast Texas consumers.  The revocation was approved by the BBB Board of Directors at their August meeting.

The BBB Accreditation of Nissan of Lake Charles was revoked due to their failure to comply with Code of Business Practices Standards for BBB Accreditation #6A which states BBB Accredited Businesses will be responsive, addressing marketplace disputes quickly, professionally, and in good faith.

The Code of Business Practices requires Accredited Businesses to promptly respond to all complaints forwarded by the BBB by: (1) Resolving the complaint directly with the complainant and notifying the BBB, or (2) Providing the BBB with a response that the BBB determines: is professional, addresses all of the issues raised by the complainant, includes appropriate evidence and documents supporting the business' position, and explains why any relief sought by the complainant cannot or should not be granted.

The section of the code in question continues by requiring that a BBB Accredited Business must make a good faith effort to resolve disputes, which includes mediation if requested by the BBB.  Other dispute resolution options, including arbitration, may be recommended by the BBB when other efforts to resolve a dispute have failed.  The BBB may consider a business’ willingness to participate in recommended dispute resolution options in determining compliance with these standards.

Per the Better Business Bureau by-laws, Nissan of Lake Charles has 30 days upon notification to appeal the decision to the Board Chairperson for review by the Board of Directors.

“Businesses who apply for BBB Accreditation must meet the eight standards in the BBB Code of Business Practices, and they must maintain those standards to continue their BBB Accreditation,” said BBB President/CEO Michael Clayton.
