BBB Laws of Life Essay Contest

Better Business Bureau Encourages Southeast Texas Students to Identify Laws of Life by Writing From the Heart

 lol

The Better Business Bureau in Southeast Texas is sponsoring a regional essay contest for students in the BBB’s business service area, which includes 71 public and privately owned schools within 8 counties and the Bolivar Peninsula.  All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are eligible, invited and encouraged to participate.  The contest is called Laws of Life.  This essay contest has been successfully implemented throughout the country, touching the lives of students, educators, parents and communities in a positive way.

The Laws of Life Essay Contest encourages a dialogue between students and teachers, parents and community members to advance positive, universal ethical principles (laws of life) such as perseverance, forgiveness, honesty, respect and love.  These life-affirming shared values support positive citizenship and transcend religious, cultural and national borders.  The contest leads students to better understand themselves and develop empathy for others, while at the same time strengthening writing skills.  And, unlike most essay contests, all ability levels can participate successfully.  It helps teachers better understand their students and promotes a positive classroom climate.

The Better Business Bureau would like to thank DuPont Goodrich Federal Credit Union and Previty – Clinic for Surgical Care for their Visionary partnerships.  Also contributing to the program is American Valve & Hydrant as an Innovator. To get involved as a corporate sponsor, please contact Sharon Thompson at 409.835.5951 x111 or sharonthompson@bbbsetexas.org.

Cash prizes will be given to the winners, as well as the teacher/mentor that worked with the winning students to encourage their participation.  Cash prizes will also be awarded to the school with the highest percentage of participating students and the campus with the highest number of essays submitted.

For more information about program participation or volunteer opportunities, please call Michelle Brewer, Education Foundation Coordinator for the Better Business Bureau in Southeast Texas at 409.835.5951 x 102 or michellebrewer@bbbsetexas.org
