The Better Business Bureau that serves all of Southeast Texas proudly announces students recently chosen as finalists in the BBB’s LAWS OF LIFE Essay Program. Over 2,000 6th, 7th and 8th grade students throughout southeast Texas submitted essays for the LAWS OF LIFE initiative. Ten student finalists have been chosen and will be honored, along with their teachers and school campuses, at a banquet on April 16, 2013 at the Holiday Inn & Suites Beaumont Plaza.
Student finalists are Kayla Campbell - Silsbee Middle School, Cole Coulter - Orangefield Junior High, Shelby Euton - Port Neches Middle School, Avery Jagoe – Vincent Middle School, Emily Jones – Marshall Middle School, Abigail LaCouture – Vidor Junior High, Nicholas Lewis – Vidor Middle School, Colton Morgan – Legacy Christian Academy, Sable Reynolds – Orangefield Junior High, and Bassam Syed – Marshall Middle School.
LAWS OF LIFE is an ethics-based essay initiative that encourages junior high and middle school students to reflect and write about their “laws of life” or ideals by which they strive to live their lives. Forgiveness, compassion, love, and bravery are some of the topics students choose to write about in their essays. Students are prompted to examine their core values, and through the program, are given tools to help them understand and develop positive character ethics. This experience helps teachers and parents better understand their students and the things that they are struggling with. LAWS OF LIFE is part of the BBB’s future workforce programming initiative TOGGLE 2.0 (Teaching Our Generations Great Leadership Ethics), which provides every middle school, junior high and high school student in southeast Texas the opportunity to engage in classroom discussion about ethics, character and core values.

Special keynote speaker at this year’s banquet will be Honorable John Stevens, Criminal District Court Jefferson County. Educational guest speaker is Michelle Reynolds from Vidor Middle School.
