Each year, local Chambers of Commerce recognize local businesses for their accomplishments throughout Southeast Texas. This year, the small business awards were presented at the 2012 Business Development Week Small Business Awards Luncheon hosted by the Southeast Texas Economic Development Foundation on April 25, 2012. Each recipient was recognized on their outstanding achievements and dedication to the economic development of Southeast Texas.
The Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce Dr. Robert A. Swerdlow Small Business Person of the Year in Industrial/Manufacturing was awarded to Southwest Building Systems. With over 30 years of excellent service in Southeast Texas and surrounding areas, SBS offers local businesses, schools, municipalities, hospitals and facilities experience in full service security, safety and sound technologies for today. This year’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award was presented to Beaumont Family Eye Care. Beaumont Family Eye Care is a well-established optometry practice, owned by Dr. Cass since 2003. The practice was the first in Southeast Texas to use electronic medical records and is the only practice with the ability to actually make lenses in office. Beaumont Family Eye Care also offered online contact lense and eyeglass ordering before other offices in the area and has over 100,000 eyeglass frames with 1000 in inventory. Additionally, Linda Morris of DJ’s Boudain was recognized as the Houston District Small Business Person of the Year. DJ’s Boudain was the Dr. Robert A. Swerdlow Small Business Person of the Year in 2011 and was nominated for the District Award. Having been named the District winner for 2012, DJ’s will now be nominated for the national award.
